EXP 3

EXP 3 (ARCH)

The task of creating a 'bridge' that also housed a full fledged school for the built environment faculty of UNSW.

Our side brief was to incorporate motion ideas into the buildings and hence my theme is:
Motion can be represented by free form and still architecture

My designs are heavily influenced by the Opera Houses around the world (Sydney, Harbin, Perth (Concept))
http://www.archdaily.com/category/opera-househttp://www.archdaily.com/778933/harbin-opera-house-mad-architects

Most articles on those buildings has taken into consideration the theme of "performance" and how a large cage of glass or see through materials causes the beauty of the building whilst also exaggerating the performance of the people.

Frontal Bridge (main)

               Cafe and study VR

Moving Elements:
 - Escalator
 - Elevators
 - Lifting walls -> becomes shelter
 - Lifting floors from the ground to become study space
 - Moving Louvers for sun and shelter for lecture room
 - Moving Shelter for bridge
 - (MOST IMPORTANT) Draining colored water, used for tinting and clearing purposes

Movement Break down

An emulation of the use of movement relative to sun direction

MOST IMPORTANT: Iconic movement, using water to tint the windows, and drain to let sunshine in
(Very experimental, and terrible simulation due to restrictions in processing power)

Elevating roof shield for Lecture hall for more sunlight/ shade

Moving Bridge shade device for rain and shade

Elevating level from the grass for more study space, tables can be flipped to get rid of dirt

Rhino Screenshots for interior display

Staff rooms
The reason for the hooks is i tried to do a glass-ception idea, where it would create the illusion that the inner glass box is floating (however, the rendering didn't turn out as how i wanted to)

Overall:
- Due to time restrictions, many rooms were left unfurnished although there is ALOT of space left that is just empty.
- The idea of using water as a tinting solution for glass was extremely difficult to simulate with my computing power
- The file was 1.5gbs (rhino) and was difficult to work with
- Lighting such a large structure was hard to get it right
